Word & Character Counter
Count words, characters, sentences, paragraphs, and estimated reading time.
Why word and character counts matter
Word count is a fundamental metric in writing. Blog posts typically target 1,500–2,500 words for SEO performance, academic essays have strict word limits, and social media platforms enforce character limits (X/Twitter: 280 characters, LinkedIn posts: 3,000 characters).
Reading time is calculated at roughly 200–250 words per minute for the average adult. A 1,000-word article takes about 4 minutes to read — useful for setting reader expectations on blog posts or documentation pages.
Character count matters for SEO too: Google shows roughly 50–60 characters in a page title and 150–160 characters in a meta description. Writing within these limits ensures your snippets aren't cut off in search results.
